Buffy’s Emma Caulfield guest stars in the ABC hit series Once Upon a Time
Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Emma Caulfield returns to the realm of the supernatural as a guest star in the hit fairy tale drama Once Upon A Time.
The Buffy veteran, who played the ex-vengeance demon Anya, takes on the role of the cannibal witch in the Hansel and Gretel story, and she was more than happy to do it.
“Villains are fun. I love playing them,” Emma says.
Like Emma’s character from Buffy, the blind witch in the “True North” episode of Once Upon a Time is a villain who is neither black nor white.
“At least in my version of her,” Emma explains. “The witch feels justified about the value she places on other people’s lives. It’s almost like you should be honored to be my victim.”
Hansel and Gretel nearly meet their doom in the 9th episode when the Evil Queen cons the children into stealing an exceptional artifact from inside the gingerbread house where the pair is captured by the sorceress.
“There’s a glee, a joy to how sadistic this witch actually is. It’s more fun than being bad and mean,” Emma says. “I hope I come off as sweet, disarming and euphoric. That’s how I played her.”
Once Upon a Time airs Sunday, January 15 on ABC. Click here for showtimes.
