Kuya’s playlist

Sammy Blues and Bobby Brass are the masterminds behind Kuya Productions.

Hailing from Toronto, the multi-platinum Grammy nominated production duo has collaborated with chart topping acts like Akon, Nicole Scherzinger, Howie D, Jesse McCartney and Ginuwine.

Back in 2004 the pair teamed up with superstar rapper Nelly on his forth album, Suit. Following its release, the record went on to sell over 4 million copies.

Sammy and Bobby are also behind success stories like Shawn Desman’s 2002 gold single “Shook” and the track “Wasting My Time” on Mase’s gold album Welcome Back.

After spending more than a decade producing hits for international stars, Sammy and Bobby are turning the spotlight around and are set to release music with their own band, Kuya.

While the guys finalize a few solid songs, they put together a playlist of some mighty powerful tracks.

.

Sammy Blues:

Purple Rain  Prince

“One of my favourite songs of all time. Prince is so electric on this, his guitar solo at the end is on fire!”

.

Imagine  John Lennon

“The piano, the melodies, the voice and the message. Thank you so much for this.”

End of The Road  Boyz II Men

“90s R&B classic. Remember when R&B was so good? This takes me back to when we had an acapella group in high school. This was our signature song.”

Man in the Mirror  Michael Jackson

“Michael was just a big inspiration and there are too many songs to mention but this was the big one for me.”

With or Without You  U2

“I just love the guitars and Bono’s vocal delivery and lyrics. I’ll sing this song over and over and start laughing as I try to imitate each of his vocal inflections and realize I sound nothing like him at all.”

Bobby Brass:

Lilac Wine  Jeff Buckley

“This is my introspective fix. When I get in that pensive mood, this is the perfect soundtrack to my experience. Love the production on this song and album.”

.

Overjoyed  Stevie Wonder

“Classic love song. Nothing beats this. ‘Ribbon in the Sky’ comes close though.”

.

Girl From Ipanema  Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto

“Ahh Bossa Nova, my favourite type of music to listen to. I was introduced to Bossa Nova by my best friend as a teen. Feel good and care free.”

.

Cruisin’  D’Angelo

“Smooth vocals and that neo soul that really inspired me to create and write music.”

.

Imagine  John Lennon

“Timeless message. This song is constantly playing in my head. Growing up, my parents always played The Beatles. John Lennon really hit home on this one.”
