Hoodie Allen’s playlist

Not only is hip hop newcomer Hoodie Allen on a near-sold-out 25 city tour in support of his debut LP, All American, he’s riding the Billboard charts.

We’re looking at the #16 spot in Canada, #10 in the US, #5 on the hip hop charts and the album debuted at #1 on iTunes.

“It feels really awesome,” Hoodie grins. “It’s been a wild, wild trip. I didn’t know what to expect, so far it’s been really great.”

Hoodie’s career exploded in 2010 with his second mix tape, Pep Rally. The infectious collection caught on like wildfire and has been downloaded well over 300,000 times.

Next came Leap Year, vaulting passed the success of Pep Rally, nationwide tours ensued with the likes of B.O.B. Cee lo Green and The Cataracs, and that brings us to All American.

“This album is a mix of my influences,” Hoodie says. “I grew up in the underground hip hop world, but my taste has evolved and I’ve really grown to appreciate indie rock and pop. I try to incorporate that kind of sound and use it in what I do. It seems people like it.”

Hoodie Allen dug into his repertoire and made a playlist of artists he more than likes. Check it.

Jay-Z

SBTRKT
