Christine Elise McCarthy’s playlist

This year’s Fright Night Film Festival is a reunion bash for Christine Elise McCarthy.

The fest is reuniting the actress with her Child’s Play 2 costar Alex Vincent, and her Beverly Hills, 90210 buddies Jason Priestley and Luke Perry, who she met playing bad girl Emily Valentine on the epic series.

“This will be really fun,” Christine says. “I see Jason and his wife all the time, they’re family to me, but it has been years since I’ve seen Luke, and I haven’t seen Alex Vincent since we wrapped Child’s Play 2. I love it!”

The reunion aside, the festival itself has Christine really psyched.

“Festivals are like little vacations where the entertainment is built in and the company is vetted and likely to share a lot of your interests and experiences,” she says.

“You’re likely to see original, thought provoking material and then meet part of the team that created it. You can’t beat it. So, if I have to work for a festival in order to be involved, bring it! I’m in.”

Here’s an inside look at some tunes Christine’s loving right now.

Far Away in Another Town – Justin Townes Earle

“I like every song this man has ever written and I think I like the live versions of each of them best. There is an edge and anger to his delivery that isn’t often on the records. He is a tall drink of water in a seersucker suit making the most deliciously contorted expressions while stamping his little foot and playing what sometimes sounds like three guitars at once. Choosing a favorite from the recorded material was really tough. I like his countrified stuff, the rockabilly and bluesy stuff, but the sadness in this song and his recurring train imagery make me weak. I could use up all five slots here with just JTE tracks. I’m obsessed, and so is my boyfriend. He’s that awesome.”

.

Tour of Duty – Jason Isbell

“I love the bouncy, upbeat catchiness of this song. The man is a poet for the everyman and for American servicemen. I tend to prefer the acoustic version of Isbell’s material too. Maybe I just prefer everyone live, these southern boys really bring it on stage.”

.

Drunk Before – Joshua Black Wilkins

“This guy is like a fantasy I conjured up and ordered off the internet. He is a ridiculously original and talented photographer and he looks as heartbreaking as his gritty Tom Waits voice sounds. Perfect rockabilly, male pin-up material. Oh, and yeah, the song! Grungy, but layered and sophisticated, and it became an instant favorite of mine. It’s one of those songs you feel like you always knew. Love.”

Wake Up Sinners – Dirt Daubers

“Banjo, harmonica, hillbilly-tinged, retro carnival/burlesque music with a pin-up girl for a singer. Get ‘Outta My Way,’ also awesome. Great party music. Lush videos marrying the best from disparate sources. Such a completely conceived band as far as style goes. I totally dig them.”

.

Tom Waits – Raised Right Men

“Tom Waits is my all-time favorite artist, so I could not leave him off this list. Love the new album, but I find myself hitting repeat on this song most often, though I also love ‘Chicago.’ The phrase ‘Heavens to Murgatroyd’ is just not used often enough these days! And my heart skips a beat whenever Tom Waits throws little grunts into his songs. And you know what? There ain’t enough raised right men. So, right on, Tom!”
