Jesse talks Dallas: Hollywood hunk chats about the epic series
Hold on to your hats, Jesse Metcalfe and the cast of Dallas are back for a third season and it promises to be one rampant ride.
“There’s almost a cliffhanger at every commercial break,” Jesse says.
The heartthrob, best known for his role as gardener boy-toy John Rowland on Desperate Housewives, plays Christopher Ewing in this reboot of the iconic prime time soap that originally started back in ’78.
“The new series really packs a lot more storyline than the old series,” Jesse comments.
We’ll keep this a spoiler free zone just in case anyone needs to play catch up, but will reveal that the sex, lies and deceit are at an all-time high this season. You know how it is, morality in Dallas is shady and no one can be trusted.
“The original cast was a lot more black and white, who was good and who was evil. There’s a lot more grey area with the new generation,” Jesse says referring to his role, the adopted son of Patrick Duffy’s character Bobby Ewing.
“He’s not exactly squeaky clean,” Jesse admits. “Christopher is definitely in conflict whether or not to compromise his values in order to get the things that he wants.”
And as a product of a dysfunctional family, “He has a short fuse and a pretty big chip on his shoulder. You know, because [he was] brought up in a pretty toxic environment,” Jesse adds.
That’s actually something the star knows about firsthand.
Growing up estranged from his biological father, and raised by a single mom, Jesse stirred up some of his own family issues and insecurities when he suited up for the role.
The California native also did a little extra homework, and studied his fictional family tree.
“I went back and watched quite a few episodes of the original series to get a sense of the tone of the show and see exactly how dysfunctional Christopher’s upbringing really was,” Jesse says. “I could see how far I could go with the character and sky’s the limit.”
