Alicen Catron Schneider’s playlist

If you’re among the millions who’ve tuned in to the hit shows Being Human, Grimm, Warehouse 13 and Heroes, then you’ve also been captivated by the soundtracks.

Alicen Catron Schneider, vice president of the creative music division for NBC Universal, leads the people responsible for bringing out the emotion in the scenes of your favorite shows with music placement.

“It usually begins with a directive from a producer or editor,” Alicen says, explaining how it all goes down. “Sometimes they send me a scene to view and sometimes they just describe what they want.”

This VP and hardcore music fanatic is basically the reason why you reach for your iPhone and hit Shazam to catch the tune that couldn’t have been more perfect for that scene you still see when you close your eyes.

And you’re not alone, Alicen herself gets moved by the music.

“One song that really struck a chord with me, like one of those special times when you’re not only proud to have been a part of the selection, but also so in love with the song that it’s incredibly blissful to finally see it to picture, was ‘Yuki’ by Vessels in episode 210 of Being Human, where Sally sat solemnly at the end,” Alicen remembers. “I must have rewound that scene three or four times. Killed me every time!”

Alicen’s made a playlist of the top five songs that currently captivate her.

.

Strange Attactor – Animal Kingdom

“I’m beyond obsessed with this song. I think there’s something so sexy about it. The vocals, the lyrics, although it also got somewhat associated with someone, so I may have to ditch it soon.”

.

Summertime Is Coming – Julian Plenti

“Speaking of sexy, Julian Plenti aka Paul Banks, lead singer from Interpol, never ceases to make me melt. Everything he touches is so distinctive. I always lose myself in his voice and I think his songs are incredibly cinematic.”

.

Trembling Hands – The Temper Trap

“I’m a very dark person musically so I’ve been surprised to find myself starting to love things much more positive and danceable as of late. These guys are so awesome. They really write a great melody and they’re a very welcome change to so much of the other stuff that’s out there.

.

Those Distant Bells – Snow Patrol

“Speaking of somewhat mainstream… I think the best songs that Snow Patrol writes are the gut-wrenching ones that really demonstrate Gary’s vocals as well as their beautiful orchestrations. A friend of mine is in the band now so I suppose my soft-spot has widened, but their storytelling is the reason why you hear them in TV and film so much!”

.

Weird Dream – Carina Round

“Carina came into my life about four years ago, and I’ve been smitten ever since. She’s my Paul Banks of female artists. Intoxicatingly beautiful vocals, haunting melodies and crazy good songwriting. She’s also one of the coolest chicks to watch live. Enchanting, mesmerizing. We’ve used a few songs from her side project, Early Winters, in Being Human, which also includes Justin Rutledge and her fiancé Dan Burns.”

Being Human season 3 is currently in production. Come out and meet the cast at Montreal ComicCon on Saturday, September 15. More info here.

Grimm airs on Mondays on NBC.

Warehouse 13 premieres on Monday, September 10 on Syfy.
