Cary Brothers’ playlist

In 2004, indie rocker, Cary Brothers, charmed his way into the mainstream through Garden State’s Grammy-winning soundtrack featuring his song “Blue Eyes.”

Since then, Cary has become very well acquainted with world of soundtracks. He has been finding his way into living rooms around the world via hit shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Smallville, Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries.

And when Cary is not on a soundtrack, he is on a bus touring the world and spreading his music live.

“I just finished two months of touring last night,” Cary tells me in a facebook chat. “And I am now stuck in a blizzard in Colorado and about to miss my flight home.”

Cary only has a couple of weeks to rest up before hitting the road for two more months with Brooke Fraser in support of his second album, Under Control, and now precious time is ticking away in Colorado.

“Luckily, there’s a movie theater here and free wifi,” he says looking on the bright side.

And of course, Cary has his iPod. Here is a look at what is getting him through.

.

Broken Headlights – Joey Ryan & Kenneth Pattengale

“Two very modern guys making timeless acoustic music. Their first live record is now free online. Get it!”

.

Rumour Has It – Adele

“I love the sad side of Adele’s record, but this song just fires me up with the feel of old Atlantic and Motown recordings. It’s been played backstage a lot.”

.

Signal – Laura Jansen

“She’s a massive pop star in Holland and just coming to this part of the world. This starts as a piano ballad and dips into Radiohead territory before it’s done. Dynamically stunning and a voice you could listen to for days.”

.

Poison and Wine – The Civil Wars

“A perfect slow burn male/female harmony. When their voices come together, it’s what heartbreak sounds like. Think the soundtrack to Once with a Nashville slant.”

.

Ambling Alp – Yeasayer

“An 80s-inspired jam that sounds like it was sent from space, with obscure references to former heavyweight Max Schmeling and a reggae sing-a-long chorus. Pure joy.”
