Taylor Momsen’s playlist
Ex-Gossip Girl star, Taylor Momsen, earned a reputation for being a naughty girl by the tender age of 17.
Fans of the teen drama were witness to Taylor’s metamorphosis, as she traded in her headband and cherry chap stick for raccoon eyes and fishnets.
In 2011, this rebel belle’s attitude caught up with her looks when rumors started swirling that Taylor was voted off the island and exiled from the Gossip Girl set due to bad behavior.
Whether there is any truth to those headlines or not, Taylor shoved acting into the backseat… no, more like the trunk. Now Taylor is focusing all her attention on leading her rock band, The Pretty Reckless.
“Music is something I’ve always done,” Taylor says. “Everyone has a day job, mine just happened to be on TV. My music and this band is how I define myself.”
Taylor and that band are currently on an international tour in support of their second album Going to Hell, a release that had some majors odds working against it.
First, the group parted ways with Interscope Records and no longer had the support of a label. That alone could flatline any project.
Then there a pesky natural disaster.
While the band was just about ready to pack up their album at Water Music Studios in Hoboken, New Jersey, hurricane Sandy wiped out the studio, destroying their gear and recordings.
After picking up the pieces and signing a record deal with the New York label Razor & Tie, Going to Hell was finally released in March. The album debuted at No.5 on the Billboard 200, produced two No.1 singles, and has the crew touring the globe.
How’s that for rising against?
Before taking the stage in Montreal, Taylor made this playlist.
“I’m going with a playlist of artists who have influenced me and my musical taste,” she says.
.
The Beatles
“They’re a defining band that did everything first to the best degree. They covered all the bases. Everyone after them has looked to them in some way, whether they know it or not. John Lennon and Paul McCartney, come on, they’re two of the greatest songwriters on the planet, ever.”
.
Led Zeppelin
“I grew up wanting to be Robert Plant and wanting to f*** Jimmy Page.”
.
AC/DC
“Amazing songwriting, amazing band. Have you ever seen a bad AC/DC performance? There isn’t one. Every show, balls to the wall. You can’t duplicate them.”
.
The Who
“They’re f***ing great and still blowing it out of the water. Unbelievable.”
.
Soundgarden
“I worship Chris Cornell. He’s one of my favorite vocalists of all time. His voice is superhuman and his songwriting is insane. He’s f***ing phenomenal.”
.
Nirvana
“We have to put Nirvana in because I can’t pick Soundgarden over Nirvana or Nirvana over Soundgarden.”
