Dragonette sets Canada ablaze
Juno award-winning electro-pop band Dragonette is about to set Canada ablaze with a hot little summer tour.
The national trek is scheduled to kick off in Ottawa on June 18 followed by selected gigs around the country including a spot on board Montreal’s renowned Osheaga Festival.
The upcoming tour is a much deserved break from the production of their upcoming fourth album which is yet to be titled.
“We’ve been busy,”says frontwoman Martina Sorbara.
And it has been time well spent, they’re thrilled with the way things are going.
“It feels like it’s all gone from, ‘Is this what we’re doing?’ to ‘This is what we’re doing.’ This is solid.”
Dragonette is most famous for their internationally successful collaborations with Mike Mago on “Outlines,” “Fire in Your New Shoes” with Kaskade and of course their Juno-winning, global chart topping hit “Hello” with Martin Solveig.
“We’re very grateful for ‘Hello’ and to be recognized for it,” she says. “It made our name a little more well known.”
Dragonette is also recognized for their own hits like “I Get Around,” “Let it Go,” “Live In This City” and their most recent smash single “Let the Night Fall.”
Now the band is chasing those tunes with their new track “Lonely Heart,” a taste of the trio’s forthcoming album and followup to 2012’s Bodyparts.
“We’re really proud of Bodyparts. It was made in our extra bedroom at home and I spent a lot of time decorating and painting those walls,” Martina laughs. “But seriously, I think it’s so cool how that album was made in our home studio and we got to take it around the world.”
As Dragonette preps to set out on the road again, fellow bandmate Dan Kurtz mentions just how fired up they are about the tour.
“We’ve never been more exciting to see,” Dan says. “It really feels like we’re at the top of what we’ve ever been able to do.”
Dragonette’s new single “Lonely Heart” is available on iTunes now. Get it here. Keep an eye out for the band’s album coming soon.
