Augie Duke’s playlist
Red-hot and fast. Augie Duke is rising like mid-summer temperatures in Death Valley.
Officially active for only four years, this ambitious California-based actress has managed to bag roles alongside some of Hollywood’s major players.
In 2012, Augie made her prime time debut by sharing a script with Aussie sex symbol Simon Baker as she guest starred on the Emmy-nominated series The Mentalist.
“It’s a really huge show and so many people read for the part, but I pulled it off,” she remembers in disbelief. “It’s surreal.”
Augie also pinches herself when she thinks about her break in the dark comedy Bad Kids Go to Hell opposite Judd Nelson.
While most of the world recognizes The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire veteran as an 80s icon, Augie calls Judd a fellow costar.
And after working on her latest film, the island-set thriller, Awaken, Augie can also add legend Darryl Hannah, License to Kill villain Robert Davi, X-Men III’s Vinnie Jones and former child superstar Edward Furlong to the growing list.
“Crazy, right?” Augie laughs.
Intimidating would be another word for it, but not in this girl’s case. Working with big time stars so early in her career doesn’t shake Augie. Not even a little.
“I don’t get nervous,” she admits. “I actually get excited and all I want to do is ask them a million questions about acting and their life.”
That’s exactly what went down on the set of Awaken. Augie barely left Robert Davi alone for minute.
“I loved watching Robert act. Being on set seemed like a second home to him and everything was so comfortable,” Augie says. “It’s just so interesting you know, speaking to these actors who have been making movies longer than I’ve been alive. There is so much to learn from them, like how I learned to not give a fuck, to do my thing, be natural about it and give it all I’ve got.”
That is one lesson Augie swears is priceless.
Chatting about her upcoming film projects, Augie also threw in this playlist.
.
Sweater Weather – The Neighbourhood
“This Sweater song is really good. I love that dark indie rock sound. It can get depressing, but I’m really into it.”
.
No Church in the Wild – Jay-Z and Kanye West featuring Frank Ocean and The-Dream
“I love dancing, and baby, I could dance to this one for days.”
.
Criminal – Fiona Apple
“I saw Fiona live with my friend and awesome actor Rodney Eastman, who you may know from Nightmare on Elm Street III or the remake of I Spit on Your Grave. At the time, I had just broken up with somebody, so it was nice to get out and have a hysterical time. There were so many amazing moments at this concert like when Fiona performed ‘Criminal.’ It reminded me of my teen years and I loved it. She’s a goddess.”
.
Hummingbird – Alex Clare
“Hey Marc, remember how you and I listened to Alex Clare all day at the lake house two summers ago? I still love him and all his dub step beats. I often dance to him in the mirror.”
.
Sex on Fire – Kings of Leon
“I will always love Kings of Leon. The whole Only by the Night album is awesome for so many reasons and they’re one fucking sexy group. I’d marry the lead singer if he wasn’t taken by a hot Victoria’s Secret model and you know, if I didn’t love my boyfriend.”
.
Coming or Going – White Arrows
“White Arrows are going to be the next big thing. They mix the 70s into their electronic pop really well.”
.
Little Lion Man – Mumford and Sons
“Mumford and Songs are amazing. I love ‘Little Lion Man,’ but I can’t tell you why. It’s not a secret or anything, I just don’t know why I love this song so much.”
.
Sail – Awolnation
“‘Blame it on my ADD, baby.’ I can relate to this kick ass track. The lead dude is dope on a rope. Awolnation is an awesome band and one of their songs, ‘MF,’ is in Bad Kids Go to Hell, another film I’m in.”
