Feist opens the Montreal International Jazz Festival

FeistFeist has the honor of opening the Montreal International Jazz Festival this year with a free outdoor show.

The Canadian superstar’s set on Friday, June 28 marks her first performance at the renowned festival since 2005.

Fans can expect to hear Feist’s hits and a handful of tracks from her 2011 album, Metals, the singer song-writer’s personal favorite.

“This is the record that I’m rooted in,” Feist says of her forth album. “I made it from a really honest place that I feel really at home in. Which isn’t to say I didn’t before, it’s just on a new level.”

After spawning the hit single “1234,” The Reminder sold over a million copies, scored four Grammy nominations, 5 Juno Awards and made Feist an international star.

Now enter Metals, a much darker, raw album that was in no way created to chase the commercial success of The Reminder.

“I felt like those days were over,” Feist admits.

Metals didn’t top The Reminder’s performance, but it certainly followed its lead as it achieved platinum status, dominated the top of the Canadian Albums Chart and earned Feist the 2012 Polaris Prize and three Juno Awards.

“This is exponentially more shocking than it was in 2008,” Feist says, surprised of her current success. “That year there were so many wonderful things happening that nothing felt exciting or shocking because I was over shocked at that time. Now this is the shock.”

To match the unexpected success of Metals, a world tour unfolded, and now Feist returns to la belle province for a milestone performance at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.

Feist opens the Montreal International Jazz Festival with a performance on the TD stage on Friday, June 28 at 9:30 p.m. More info here.
