Steve Hackett’s playlist
Former Genesis guitarist, Steve Hackett is brushing up on his French.
“Malheureusement ce n’est pas tres bon,” he laughs, sitting in his Manhattan hotel room.
The UK guitar star isn’t as versed in french as he’d like to be, but with the essentials down, Steve is ready to return to la belle province for 5 show dates on his Genesis Extended Tour.
Back for the second time in no more than a year, Steve’s new tour is chasing the huge success of 2013’s international Genesis Revisited Tour.
“The response in North America has been extraordinary,” Steve says. “And that’s so special because I’m very emotionally attached to this tour and the songs.”
Steve’s set list spotlights reinventions of his favorite Genesis tunes penned between 1971 and 1976 including “The Musical Box,” “Dancing with the Moonlit Knight” and “Supper’s Ready.”
“These songs come from an epic time and have really survived the years,” Steve comments. “It’s a shame that nobody else could reconvene and do this with me, but I’ve been working with other very talented people and now I’m very happy to share my ideal versions of the classic songs.”
Before leaving his hotel room for sound check, Steve pulled together a playlist of songs not Genesis.
“This should reflect my taste. I listen to anything from country to baroque,” he says. “I’ll start with Muse’s ‘Exogenesis,’ the title of the song is funny enough.”
.
Exogenesis: Symphony – Muse
The Dark Night of the Soul – Loreena McKennitt
Grand Hotel – Procol Harum
All Your Love – John Mayall with Eric Clapton
Both Sides, Now – Joni Mitchell
Steve plays le Grand Théâtre de Québec in Quebec City on Friday, November 28 and Place des Arts in Montreal on Saturday, November 29. More tour dates here.
