Another side of Cody Simpson
Cody Simpson is dropping layers and flexing his muscles.
The 16-year-old pop star is putting his songwriting skills at the forefront of it all, showing off his vocals, musicianship and actual know-how with his new album The Acoustic Sessions.
And Cody announced it all back stage at the 2013 MMVAs.
“I’m definitely showcasing that,” Cody said in the media room. “I artistically discovered who I want to be.”
The five-song release will feature acoustic renditions of a couple tunes from Cody’s beginnings and from Surfers Paradise, his sophomore full length named after a beach in Gold Coast, Australia.
“That’s where I grew up,” he said. “In everything I do I like to incorporate influence from where I grew up. I feel like that’s the most important thing to me, always staying true to where I came from.”
And when the LA-based Aussie doesn’t draw inspiration from his roots, he turns to the ladies, the way he did for “La Da Dee,” a track included in The Acoustic Sessions.
“I can’t write a song that’s not about girls,” he laughed. “It’s difficult for me.”
The ladies’ man has also thrown a holiday tune into the mix, “Please Come Home for Christmas,” showing his fans just how close family and home is to his heart.
“I’ve learned to appreciate home, my family. If someone gave me a week off, I wouldn’t want to go anywhere but back to the Gold Coast. Home for me is paradise.”
