Pete Murray’s playlist

PeteMurrayPete Murray, one of Australia’s big league singer-songwriters, finally made his Canadian debut.

“I’ve wanted to do this for years, but I was bound to a record contract that wouldn’t let me,” Pete says. “Nothing was allowed to be played and nothing was allowed to be released on iTunes here, so I couldn’t share my music with Canada. It was a very frustrating time for me.”

With the help of his friends and the Tragically Hip’s manager, Bernie Breen, Pete is now a free man and has his Canadian release.

Like a decent introduction should, Pete’s self-titled EP includes a handful of his most acclaimed tunes from back home like the platinum single, “So Beautiful.”

Pete is also introducing himself to Canada in the flesh by touring the country with The Tragically Hip’s Paul Langlois.

“I’m so grateful for all the support from Canada, from Bernie and Paul who helped me get a leg up and get things started. Now I have something to build on.”

As a salute to Canada, the star from Down Under made a playlist of his favorite icons from the Great White North.

.

Neil Young

“If we’re making a Canadian playlist, you have to have Neil Young of course.‘Cowgirl in the Sand,’ that’s a really cool one.”

.

The Tragically Hip

“‘Courage (for Hugh MacLennan)’is one I listen to a lot.”

.

Paul Langlois

“I’m touring with Paul right now and it’s been really good. It’s great to have someone like Paul like your music. Whenever he talks about you, people listen. That goes a long way.”

.

Ron Sexsmith

“I’ve toured with Ron before and I’m grateful for that. This guy’s got plenty of good songs to talk about.”

.

Gordon Lightfoot

“Beautiful voice and a great songwriter. I had no idea who he was until I discovered him while backpacking through Canada in the 90s.”

Pete Murray is currently on tour with The Tragically Hip’s Paul Langlois and Greg Ball. The guys play Montreal’s Petit Campus on Friday, November 22. More tour dates here.
