Ed Sheeran: Everyone’s favorite ginger
Ed Sheeran sure is feeling the love this side of the Atlantic.
Once again the UK superstar has been invited to attend and perform at the MuchMusic Video Awards.
The invitation to the ball came packed with with a couple nominations including Most Buzzworthy International Artist and a request to co-host. Ed has accepted and is calling it a date, lining this up to be his forth appearance at the big event.
The 24-year-old West Yorkshire lad is coming in riding on the tidal wave of success caused when he dropped his titanic release X.
The blockbuster album climbed to no. 1 on the charts in 14 countries around the world and has made Ed a global phenomenon, but he didn’t always have it made. The superstar remembers a time when it wasn’t easy being ginger. A time when he couldn’t even get a date.
“I had to start playing guitar to get laid,” Ed laughs. “Ginger boys have it tough.”
Ed is convinced that fellow ginger Brit and Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, who was also cast in Ed’s video for his multi-platinum tune “Lego House,” didn’t have it any better.
“Rupert had to become an actor to get laid,” Ed chuckles again.
There are however a lucky few who don’t even have to try. Like Prince Harry for example.
“He’s made ginger sexy without doing anything. Prince Harry just had to be born. That’s sick.”
As for the ladies, Ed says they live a charmed existence and know little of the hard knock life that results from being a redhead.
“Ginger women are fine,” he insists. “Because ginger women will always have the sex appeal.”
Ed’s pull has definitely kicked in since he picked up a guitar and right now, his magnetism is at an all time high. He received 5 nods at the 2015 Billboard Awards including the nomination for Top Male Artist.
Back in February Ed walked down the Grammys red carpet and into America’s biggest night in music with three nominations in top categories including Album of the Year for his double-platinum-certified album X.
And Ed was also honored twice at the poll-based People’s Choice Awards where he was voted Favorite Male Artist while X was named Favorite Album.
The people have spoken. Ed is everyone’s favorite ginger and his fans don’t shy away from voicing their love.
“The fans are intense,” he says of his following. “And very sweet.”
A little eccentric too, still “very polite,” Ed adds as he remembers a specific soccer-mom who left a big impression.
“There was a mom in San Francisco backstage with her daughter. She was like, ‘This is my daughter. So Carrie Underwood was the first kiss for this 10 year-old boy, so I was wondering could you be my daughter’s first kiss?’ I’m like, ‘Well, your daughter’s 9, so no.’ I’d be on the sex offenders list. That’s not happening,” he laughs.
Here’s what is happening.
After a sensational homecoming over in the UK, where Ed performed at the 2015 BRIT Awards and won British Male Solo Artist and British Album of the Year, the singer back and executing his North American take-over.
Ed’s plan of attack includes a bunch of televised appearances, a continent-wide arena tour which is selling out, and of course his co-host duties and anticipated performance at the 2015 MuchMusic Video Awards.
