Michael Buble wins his first Canadian Screen Award
Grammy and Juno-winner Michael Buble just placed one more shiny trophy up on his mantle.
The superstar crooner earned his very first Canadian Screen Award, and it was the honor of Best Host in a Variety, Lifestyle, Reality/Competition, Performing Arts or Talk Program or Series for his emcee duties at the 42nd Annual Juno Awards held last year in Regina, SK.
“It meant more to me than most anything else I’ve done,” Michael says of his award-winning gig. “I hosted what I think was a very successful night. The best I could do was go out there and have fun.”
In many ways, the 2013 Juno Awards televised broadcast was the Michael Buble Show. The suits at CTV and the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (CARAS) allowed Michael to loosen his tie, take the evening by its horns and really run with it.
“They gave me carte blanche, they let me write every intro I did. Basically everything you saw, everything you heard, every joke and every weird face I did was all me up there hoping it would work,” he says.
Michael charmed the nation with his good looks and quirkiness and won over millions, or at least the folks at the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.
“It’s a hard gig and you can’t make everybody happy,” he admits. “But I was comfortable. As comfortable as I’ve ever been on stage. I’m built for this.”
Michael is up for 5 Juno Awards including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Single of the Year for his hit single “It’s a Beautiful Day.” See all the nominees here. The Juno Awards air Sunday, March 30 on CTV.
Michael is currently on a world tour that brings him to Montreal’s Bell Centre on July 4 and 5. Complete tour dates here.
