Alyssa Reid’s playlist
Alyssa Reid isn’t your standard pop star manufactured in a recording studio.
But with her big glossy productions like the Juno and MMVA nominated “Alone Again,” “Satisfaction Guaranteed,” her Virginia to Vegas collaboration “We Are Stars” and her latest single “Dangerous,” it’s hard to visualize the Canadian hit-maker any other way.
“A lot of people think I’m just a pop singer,” Alyssa tells me over the phone. “I can’t blame them for thinking that, just listen to my songs. The thing is people hear the polished pop versions. They don’t get to hear how my songs are originally written.”
Alyssa is about to change the public’s impression with her new intimate, unplugged album Phoenix.
The star is shining a bright light on her musicianship and uncovering a little-known fact about her artistry.
“So many don’t know that I write my own songs, or that I write for other artists. I’m a songwriter and a musician, and I want to get that across,” she says.
Phoenix reveals Alyssa’s artistic side by way of 8 tracks recorded with her vocals at the forefront, simply accompanied by piano and guitar arrangements.
While some radio stars may feel naked and shaky after shedding the thick layers put on in the studio, Alyssa is very comfortable with the idea of complete exposure.
“I actually feel more vulnerable when I’m singing with a full band behind me. The more people involved and the more sounds there are, the more distractions exist. That to me is more scary, more intimidating than stripping the music down. This to me feels good.”
After talking comfort, Alyssa made this playlist of feel good tunes.
