The pack is back: Laura Vandervoort & Bitten crew return for final season

Laura Vandervoort has her canines whitened, sharpened and ready for the third and final season of the Space channel’s original series Bitten.

The former Smallville star resumes her lead role for the last time as she-wolf Elena Michaels, the only female werewolf alive in a reality based on the critically-acclaimed novels Women of the Otherworld by New York Times best-selling author Kelley Armstrong.

“I love playing Elena,” Laura says. “She’s such a strong woman. She kicks ass.”

And So does Laura. Here is one reason why.

“I have a second degree black belt,” she reveals.

That shared strength and other likenesses between Laura and Elena are what attracted the actor to this character in the first place.

And adding to the thrill of being on board Bitten, “I get to do my stunts,” Laura grins.

For someone who grew up idolizing Buffy the Vampire Slayer, that’s practically a dream come true. But it’s not all fun and games.

Laura has a lot to deal with on the daily like working long hours, completing intense physical training and dealing with the pressures and responsibilities of being a series lead.

Then there’s the most challenging part of it all: working closely with an all-male cast including Canadian studs Greyston Holt and Steve Lund.

“It’s really hard to go to work with them. It’s a shirtless hunk convention every day,” Laura laughs. “That’s the toughest part.”

But Laura and the crew’s sacrifices were well worth it. Each week, the Canadian-made creature feature reached more than 1 million viewers, making Bitten Space’s most-watched original series of all time and the network’s No.1 program.

“We had a good feeling that it was going to be a great show,” Laura comments. “But to see the reaction, we’re pretty pleased. People actually know who we are. Last year it was a new show, people weren’t quite sure, but now the fanbase is just amazing.”

With Bitten’s success and loyal following, the decision-makers at Space didn’t hesitate to renew the show and order 10 one-hour action-packed episodes. The network also continues their partnership with Syfy, the NBCUniversal channel airing the Toronto-filmed series in the US.

Naturally, a fresh season of Bitten means new challenges, more surprises and the arrival of suspicious characters including John Ralston previously of HBO’s Living in Your Car and Canada’s own Degrassi: The Next Generation. All to say there is just no telling what can happen.

With certainty though, Laura promises that there are three sure things that can be expected throughout the final chapter.

“More romance, more nudity, more blood.”

The final season of Bitten starts Friday, February 12 on Space.
