What Patrick Stewart wants you to know

PatrickStewartFirst, the bad news.

If you haven’t heard, it’s about X-Men.

Sir Patrick pulverized the hearts of fans worldwide when he announced that he will not be taking part in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse movie currently in production.

Back in January, the icon revealed that he will not reprise his role as Professor Xavier who he played in the initial trilogy and in the previous installment 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Bummer for followers of the franchise, but for all-around fans of Sir Patrick and his work, there is good news.

The star wants you to know that he has other exciting projects coming your way.

Later this fall, keep an eye out for the Holiday comedy Stuck “about a power outage in central Manhattan,” Patrick says.

The 75-year-old legend plays opposite James Roday of Psych and Veep’s Gary Cole in the film revolving around a bunch of New Yorkers trapped inside elevators during a blackout on Christmas Eve.

“It was a fascinating few days of work,” he adds. “I enjoyed it very much.”

Then there’s Green Room, a thriller by Jeremy Saulnier, the director responsible for the crowd-funded revenge flick Blue Ruin. Patrick puts on his best bad guy impression as a white supremacist who terrorizes a punk rock band who fight for their lives barricaded back stage in the venue’s green room.

The movie is set for release before year’s end. Oh, and fellow Trekkie Anton Yelchin aka Pavel Chekov of the Star Trek reboot co-stars.

Epic, right? Well that’s not all. There is something else down the line and Patrick says it’s major.

The big thing in my life right now is a half hour comedy show created by Seth McFarlane and Jonathan Ames.”

These two comic geniuses (Seth, the mind behind Family Guy, American Dad, Ted and A Million Ways to Die in the West and Jonathan, the creator and writer of Bored to Death), teamed-up with the studio that produced the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated series House of Cards to bring you Blunt Talk.

“It is about a guy whose name is Walter Blunt and his TV show called Blunt Talk. It’s about the kind of interview/talk show and his somewhat chaotic private life,” Patrick says.

Blunt Talk marks a turn in Sir Patrick’s 50-year career. Get ready to see the man like never ever before as he takes on the role of this coke snorting, booze guzzling Brit who relocates to LA and takes Hollywood by the horns.

Two seasons of the comedy have been green-lit with an order of 20 episodes in total to air on the Starz cable network. An exact premiere date hasn’t been set yet, but stay tuned. Blunt Talk will hit the tube really soon.

“It should begin to air in June or July,” he says.

So there you have it. When it comes to X-Men Patrick might be sitting it out, but he isn’t sitting still. You heard it from him.
