Metric’s playlist
Metric is measuring up to their rocker peers at the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards. With two nominations for their single “Stadium Love,” to quote the hit tune, “the odds are neck and neck.”
Speaking of body parts, Metric is always hands on when it comes to their music. The band even took part in directing their nominated video, the sixth single from their forth studio album Fantasies.
While recording Fantasies, Metric members held a private vote: major vs. indie, and the result was unanimous. They went ahead and released the album and its singles on their independent label, in every medium they could think of.
“Everything, all the time, for everyone all the time,” says guitarist James Shaw.
“The more different mediums to get our music out, the better,” adds frontwoman Emily Haines.
Mission accomplished and it seems Metric has selected their preferred medium. The band has made digital releases a priority, offering bonus tracks, free remixes and acoustic versions online.
“It’s necessary in the music business these days and we’re using every single aspect of the internet. It’s the most important medium there is,” says bassist Josh Winstead. “Metric has always been a forward thinking band.”
Innovative plotting isn’t the only thing this foursome does as an ensemble.
“We share one iPod when we tour because we only have one doc and that’s OK. We’ve come to learn to share, the same way we’d share the one bunk at the back of a bus,” Emily laughs.
Metric’s leading lady narrows down the list of artists jammed into their communal iPod.
