Kevin Bazinet’s playlist

KevinBazinetKevin Bazinet, winner of La Voix, the Quebecois version of the American hit singing competition The Voice, is charming the belle province once again, this time, he’s doing it from the road.

Kevin kicked off a tour across Quebec in support of Talk to Me, his post-La Voix album which recently achieved gold certification, selling over 40,000 copies within three months since its release.

“Recording my album Talk to Me was a dream come true, so was my experience on La Voix, but touring my record now and playing these songs live feels so much bigger,” Kevin tells me over the phone. “This is my favorite part of the amazing journey I’m on.”

While out on the highway to stardom, Kevin has come across another high point in his budding career.

It was just announced that he will join his La Voix coach Marc Dupre and fellow Quebecois star Marie-Mai for a summer concert at Montreal’s Bell Centre, the epic arena known for housing shows by international superstars like Celine Dion, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Madonna, the Rolling Stones and U2.

But first, Kevin is out on his own, conquering Quebec one gig at a time.

“It’s exciting. I have a solid, diverse live set planned for the fans on this tour,” he says. “There is a lot of variety, layers and aspects to it and that’s important to me. This is also my chance to really show them what I’m made of and what kind of artist I am. I think the public is going to feel just how excited and passionate I am about it all. I know that is going to resonate.”

Fans can expect to hear a good portion of the tracks found on Talk to Me including Kevin’s hit single of the same name, and a few surprise reprises from the repertoires of music’s greats ranging from Ben E. King and Bob Marley to The Fray and OneRepublic.

Kevin teases and hints at some set list possibilities with this playlist.

I Got a Woman – Ray Charles

“Ray Charles is so special. He’s an artist who has really left a mark on me and the whole world. I love the way he could perform a song, the same song, in so many different ways. ‘I Got a Woman’ is a great one.”

.

Soulman – Ben L’Oncle Soul

“Here is someone with so much soul. An artist with this amount is rare. ‘Soulman’ is an example of that. And a plus, there’s a French and English version out there.”

.

Belief – Gavin DeGraw

“This song isn’t part of my show… yet. I love Gavin, he’s been one of my favorite artists since childhood. His voice is just unbelievable.”

.

Let It Go – James Bay

“I’m crazy about this song. I love how James Bay brings something different to the music scene. I may perform this one eventually. I’d just need to find the space in my set list. There are so many songs I love to play.”

.

We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off – Ella Eyre

“An amazing song and an amazing singer. This is definitely a song to discover if you haven’t already.”

.

L’Amour Existe Encore – Celine Dion

“I sang ‘L’Amour Existe Encore’ for the first time on La Voix. My coach Marc Dupre suggested I perform a song by Celine and I mentioned this one. I’ve always loved it for many reasons, the music, the lyrics and the values it represents. The minute we rehearsed the song we knew it would work and that it was a good choice. Now, of all the songs I perform live, it gets the biggest reaction every single time. It’s incredible. I love singing it and feeling the fans there with me. I close my eyes and take it all in.”

.

Let’s Get It On – Marvin Gaye

“I love the beautiful, sexual vibe of this song. Sure, it’s an oldie, but it never really gets old. I’ll never grow tired of singing it.”
