Gigi Hadid to host iHeartRadio MuchMusic Video Awards
Supermodel Gigi Hadid is going to turn the 2016 iHeart Radio MuchMusic Video Awards stage into her own personal catwalk.
The American It Girl will host Canada’s hottest award show featuring performances by this year’s finest musical acts including Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Nick Jonas and Alessia Cara.
Gigi returns to Much headquarters in Toronto after making her MMVA debut last year as a presenter alongside guest host Ed Sheeran.
“It’s awesome,” Gigi says of the Canadian music award event.
Since it’s launch in 1990, the MMVAs have been honoring the year’s most standout music videos by throwing a massive street party on Queen Street West in downtown Toronto.
“The energy is a lot different,” Gigi comments, comparing the block party blow-out to the typical theatre-set award ceremony. “It’s really fun.”
And really, really star-studded.
Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, the Black Eyed Peas, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, the Black Keys and Ariana Grande are among past MMVA go-ers.
The fashion icon fits right in. Gigi was already a rising star by the age of two, landing her first modelling gig for Baby Guess.
Now at only 21, she has strutted down the runways of Chanel, Jean Paul Gautier, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Gigi has lent her face to Maybelline, Tom Ford, Tommy Hilfiger and Versace and graced the cover of 10 issues of Vogue magazine around the world.
And the dream gigs keep rolling in.
“My schedule is really back-to-back,” she admits, but isn’t at the liberty of discussing much of what is up next.
“Modeling is not like a lot of industries where stuff is very quick. We have to wait sometimes 6 months before we can talk about something. Not a lot of things I can talk about, but a lot of amazing stuff.”
Gigi’s success has captured international attention and has drawn in heaps of fans on social media with over 16 million followers on Instagram alone.
“What’s happening is a big deal and I’m really excited about it,” she says.
As Gigi climbs to the top of the fashion world she is not restricting herself to that realm. She stands true to her motto the sky’s the limit.
She has slightly touched on acting having starred in a number of music videos notably Calvin Harris’ “How Deep Is Your Love,” Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” and Zayn’s “Pillowtalk.”
In addition to these roles, Gigi found her way behind the camera and made her directorial debut as co-director of DNCE’s video for their hit tune “Cake By the Ocean.”
“I try not to make a single goal,” Gigi says.
This ambitious one will soon add Show-Host to her resume when the MMVAs broadcast live on Sunday, June 19 at 8 p.m. on Much, CTV, VRAK and at Much.com.
Gigi will be joined by fellow model Hailey Baldwin and other celebs including Amber Rose and Pretty Little Liars’ Lucy Hale at the 2016 iHeartRadio MuchMusic Video Awards. For more MMVA info and updates visit MUCH here.
