Star Trek’s Karl Urban ventures into the Marvel Universe
Star Trek’s Karl Urban has boldly gone beyond the final frontier.
For the first time, the Leonard “Bones” McCoy actor is exploring the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a role in the upcoming superhero movie Thor: Ragnarok.
“Marvel is incredible. I love what they’re doing,” Karl says, thrilled to be on board.
Playing the part of super-villain Skurge the Executioner, Karl joins returning cast members Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, and Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Cate Blanchett, Jaimie Alexander, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Sam Neill also star.
Karl says that great cast, exciting characters and a fantastic script are what pulled him in. His inner fanboy may have also played a part, even though the star admits to discovering his love for the genre later in life.
“I didn’t read many comics growing up, but I did read Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns,” he says.
Sorry Marvel, Karl said it. DC Comics were his first love, and he has a thing for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy too.
“Nolan’s The Dark Night is awesome,” Karl says. “Nolan did a really phenomenal job of cherry-picking some of the classic elements of Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. If you haven’t read it, I really recommend it. It’s the quintessential comic.”
With Karl and this star-studded cast, Thor:Ragnarok has a lot going for it too.
Thor: Ragnarok is currently shooting in Australia and will hit theaters November 3, 2017. In a near future, fans can see Karl in Star Trek Beyond as the film gets its home video release Tuesday, November 1, 2016.
Follow Karl on facebook and twitter, he’s bound to post more behind-the-scenes photos like this.
