Angelike Falbo’s playlist

Montreal’s latest rising star Angelike Falbo, runner-up of La Voix season 3, Quebec’s award-winning version of The Voice, is about to give something back to the public that voted her into the spotlight of the singing competition.

First, a hometown charity concert featuring fellow Canadian popstar and multi-Juno Award nominee Karl Wolf, then a sweet single in time for Valentine’s Day, followed by her biggest offering of all, her debut album.

“I am very proud of the outcome,” Angelike tells me of her upcoming album Confidence set to be released through Montreal household label La Chapelle Records.

“It’s got some variety and every single song has an element to it that represents me.”

Appropriately named, confidence is exactly what La Voix gave the now 18-year-old, who at the time was 16 and the youngest contestant to ever make it into the finals.

“La Voix is an experience that also really gives you a good taste of what the industry is like,” she adds.

“I spent my days and nights rehearsing, I had to learn several songs in such little time, I performed on live television with 3 million viewers, and of course I was getting used to having my own stylists and hair and makeup artists.”

Sharing the stage with superstars Kelly Clarkson, Melissa Etheridge and rock icons Def Leppard, and receiving a personalized video message of encouragement from her idol Christina Aguilera didn’t hurt her development either.

“Christina Aguilera sending me a video was probably the highlight of my experience on La Voix,” Angelike says.

“I feel truly blessed that I have been able to meet and perform with legendary artists at such a young age and early stage in my career. I aim to keep working hard and meet even more incredible artists throughout my career.”

And there is that confidence and determination that the budding-star explains was backed and strengthened in the aftermath of La Voix.

“Once the show was done I found myself being concerned about the fact that things slowed down and were all of a sudden ‘back to normal’ and quiet,” she says.

“This taught me that the music industry is definitely a tough one. However, I have always been a hard worker and I believe that with hard work and visualization everything is possible.”

As Angelike preps the release of her new single and debut album, she put together a playlist of artists who have a massive influence on her and her music.

Touch it – Ariana Grande

“Ariana Grande’s latest album Dangerous Woman is my favorite album of 2016. I love her song ‘Touch it.’ The melody is great and I adore its dubstep vibe. She definitely one of the inspirations to a few songs on my album.”

Crazy in Love – Beyonce

“Beyonce has so many amazing songs, however her classic ‘Crazy in Love’ has got to be my favorite. This is a woman who has got the whole package. She has the voice, the looks and definitely the moves! I really look up to Beyonce because she is such a hard worker and I love that she is always in command when she steps on stage. You can’t take your eyes off her.”

Hurt – Christina Aguilera

“Christina Aguilera is absolutely amazing! From the time I discovered my passion for singing I instantly fell in love with her vocals. I always looked up to her and sang her songs. I love the challenge of trying to hit those high notes that she hits. The very first song I ever sang was ‘Hurt’ was the very first song I ever sang. I was very young at the time and didn’t comprehend the whole story behind it, but watching the music video always got me emotional.”

I’m the Only One – Melissa Etheridge

“I am so honored that I had the opportunity to meet Melissa Etheridge and sing with her! I sang a few songs with her, but the one that I enjoyed singing the most was ‘I’m the Only One.’ Melissa is one of the most humble people I have ever met. I really admire her for that and I hope to always remain as kind and humble as her.”

I’m Every Woman – Whitney Houston

“I don’t need a big explanation as to why I admire this artist so much. It’s pretty self-explanatory. Whitney is a legend! Just like Christina Aguilera, I always admired her stunning vocals, but what I love the most about her is that she was always elegant and classy. ‘I’m Every Woman’ is probably my absolute favorite song of all time.”

Angelike joins Karl Wolf, Jacynthe and other artists in a benefit concert for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation at the Theatre Marcellin Champagnat in Laval on Sunday, January 29. Ticket info here.
