Imagine Dragons are no good at love songs
Imagine Dragons know how to turn out a hit and the proof is in the numbers.
The iconic rock band has sold over 30 million singles worldwide which include the chart riders “It’s Time,” “Demons,” “I Bet My Life,” “Believer,” and the sensational single, “Radioactive.”
“Radioactive,” the band’s biggest success so far, has sold 7.7 million tracks in the US alone.
The song also rose to No.1 on the Billboard Rock chart, spent 87 weeks on Hot 100 chart and won the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance, the 2014 Billboard Music Award for Top Streaming Song and the Teen Choice Award for Choice Rock Song back in 2013.
Like I said, the guys can whip out a hit.
Lyrically, Imagine Dragons frontman and chief songwriter Dan Reynolds has covered a variety of themes ranging from anxiety and depression to family-life and fame.
He’s even written a song about his personal struggle with ankylosing spondylitis, a form of arthritis that affects the spine.
Dan can tackle just about any subject, just don’t hold your breath for the band’s next hit to be a lovers’ anthem. Dan says he’s just no good at love songs.
“I have a hard time writing about love. It’s just never come easy for me,” he explains. “All my relationships have been very tumultuous. Always high highs, low lows. Fight hard, love hard.”
There was that one time when Dan wrestled with the subject of love and actually came out on top. The result was “Walking the Wire,” a track on the band’s 2017 album Evolve.
“That song is one of the only love songs I’ve written,” he says. “So yeah, don’t hold your breath.”
Imagine Dragons are currently on their 2002 Mercury Tour with stops including May 3 and 4 at Montreal’s Bell Centre. Visit ImagineDragons.com for complete tour dates.
