Once Upon a Time’s Dylan Schmid remembers debut as series comes to an end
Once Upon a Time is finally getting its happily ever after.
When the current seventh season comes to an end, ABC will close the book on its fairy tale drama.
Formerly hailed as the No.1 drama on TV, Once Upon a Time meant a lot to many people, 11.8 million to be exact, at least in the beginning.
Among the legions of fans that hold the series dear to their hearts is 19 year-old Canadian actor Dylan Schmid.
For Dylan, who at the age of 13 played Rumplestiltskin’s young son Baelfire (aka Bae), Once Upon a Time was the first chapter of his now bright and promising career.
“That first episode I was in was the first thing I’d ever done,” Dylan says. “It was really surreal. Just being on set was surreal. It was amazing and I had never seen anything like it. All the equipment, all the crane cameras, all the people.”
Among “all those people” was Robert Carlyle, who played the roles of Mr. Gold and Rumplestiltskin.
Dylan credits the experienced actor, previously seen in SGU Stargate Universe, for showing him the ropes.
“Robert helped me a lot, he really showed me the way. He taught me how to connect. He was a person I could look up to and learn from. I’ve learned to really live the part and be in the moment,” Dylan says.
Since making his debut on Once Upon a Time, Dylan has appeared in nearly 20 productions including Netflix’s 1922 starring Thomas Jane and the series Shut Eye opposite Jeffrey Donovan of Burn Notice.
“Once Upon a Time and that whole experience really opened the door and prepared me for other projects like 1922 that have opened my eyes to a whole new level of acting.”
Once Upon a Time will return for the second half of its 7th and final season on March 2 and the finale will air in May.
