Travis Cormier’s playlist

Travis Cormier, a finalist of La Voix, the French Canadian version of the American hit singing competition The Voice, has been handpicked to open for Bon Jovi at Montreal’s Bell Centre.

The show promoters held a contest to give local artists the chance to play the opening gig for the legendary rock band and the Acadian singer came out on top.

“It was a contest held by Evenko. You submitted a video of an original song and people could vote. I got amazing support from my fans, especially from home in New Brunswick and from Quebec. And then judges decided on a winner,” Travis explains.

The rising star can’t thank voters and the panel of judges enough for making this extraordinary opportunity possible.

“I haven’t got a lot of sleep since I got the news,” he laughs. “It’s really incredible and I’m so grateful. This is a dream come true. Bon Jovi’s been my favorite band since I was a little kid. I do Bon Jovi medleys at all my shows and I have covers on YouTube. Now, to get to open for them at the Bell Centre is huge.”

Travis has been awarded a 20 minute set to warm up the stage for Bon Jovi and he plans to use his time wisely and make the best of it.

“For the first time ever, I’ll be playing my songs from my upcoming debut album coming out later this year,” he says. “And I think my songs will fit perfectly with the show. Bon Jovi has always been an inspiration and they inspired a lot of the sounds and direction of my album.”

In homage to Bon Jovi and to get fans pumped for the upcoming show, I asked Travis to make a playlist of his favorite Bon Jovi essentials.

Always
“‘Always’ is the song that I wish I wrote. It’s such a perfect love song.”

Bad Medicine
“This is a song that really rocks. It’s the kind of song that I want to open my shows with. I find the intro so cool.”

I’ll Be There for You
“I really love Richie Sambora’s version of it. There’s a live version of Richie singing lead at Madison Square Garden. That performance is what made me love the song so much.”

It’s My Life
“I love Bon Jovi’s older songs, but I also really like their early 2000 stuff too. I find songs like ‘It’s My Life’ very inspiring.”

Keep the Faith
“When I was a kid I discovered my parents’ CD collection and they had Bon Jovi’s Keep the Faith album. I played that album and that was the first time I heard Bon Jovi.”

Livin’ on a Prayer
“This is a classic feel good anthem. If I’m driving in my car and it comes on the radio, I feel like calling up all my buddies and throwing a party. Whenever I’m at a bar and there’s a DJ, I request the song and when they put it on, you can see everyone in the bar singing along. Now that’s really cool.”

This Ain’t a Love Song
“I love Bon Jovi’s love songs and ballads. It’s hard to pick one or two. I’m really into ‘This Ain’t a Love Song.’”

Wanted Dead or Alive
“I love this song a lot. It’s probably one of my favorites. I’ve played it a lot at my shows and I’ve performed it with my coach from La Voix, Eric Lapointe.”
