The Simple Plan Foundation announces $140K in donations

Pop punk superstars Simple Plan just announced that their charity, The Simple Plan Foundation, raised $140,000.

Over 30 charities devoted to helping youth in need received financial support from the foundation, bringing its total donations to over 2.5 million dollars since the band from Montreal set up the organization back in 2005.

“The Simple Plan Foundation is an extension of what the band is about,” explains drummer Chuck Comeau.

The SPF provides aid to youth affected by mental and physical illness or dealing with hardships resulting from addiction, homophobia, poverty and the consequences of war.

The foundation also promotes music programs in schools, helping students find passion, purpose and direction.

“But more than anything, we really want to help young people with diseases like cancer or who are going through problems with drugs and depression,” Chuck adds.

Organizations that have benefited from the foundation’s support include the St-Justine Children’s Hospital, the Montreal Children’s Hospital, Toronto’s SickKids Hospital, The Lighthouse Children and Families, as well as Dr. Julien’s Music Garage, the Portage Foundation and War Child Canada.

Simple Plans’ philanthropic efforts have been acknowledged before and even rewarded with the Allan Waters Humanitarian Juno Award, an honor that recognizes outstanding Canadian artists whose humanitarian contributions have strengthened the social fabric of our nation.

While Simple Plan is flattered by the recognition, these Montrealers remain humble and explain that they are simply lending a hand and using their platform to spread awareness.

“We’re just extending our values and helping where we can,” Chuck says. “It’s the very least we can do.”

In other exciting news, after hustling for a good part of 2019 and performing around the world, Simple Plan is now focusing on recording for their upcoming sixth album expected out this spring.
