Majandra Delfino: Life after Roswell
Curl up and die in the face of defeat? Not Majandra Delfino.
The actress didn’t wallow in sorrow after the demise of the once acclaimed TV series Roswell, in which she starred as Maria Deluca.
“Life is such a series of discouragements and maniacally gleeful moments, often times that line feels blurred,” Majandra comments. “I knew that one day Roswell would end and something else would begin.”
Instantaneously, the actress bounced back with a promising music career as if the stars aligned.
“You don’t even know how much I believe in fate.” Majandra says.
Destiny is one way to look at the 30 year old’s career. While Majandra announced preparations for a third album this past February on Twitter, June 29 marked her return to television.
The Venezuelan-American has a starring role in ABC’s newest sitcom State of Georgia alongside Raven-Symoné and Loretta Devine.
State of Georgia and Roswell aside, the actress’ TV credits include Boston Public, The Tony Danza Show, Katie Joplin, Men of a Certain Age and Quarterlife.
Majandra also appears in the films Life As We Know It, The Secret Life of Girls and Traffic. Be it acting or singing, Majandra was born to entertain.
“Both acting and music will always be in my plans and in my life,” Majandra explains. “When one takes over the other does tend to take the back seat, but is never neglected.”
It was in 2001 that music began to make its way into the front seat and Majandra independently released her debut EP The Sicks.
“The sicks are those symptoms you feel during a painful time,” Majandra says explaining the album title. “Like the chills, or the shakes. I believe heartache gives you the sicks.”
Following sold out shows and successful album sales, 2007 saw Majandra release a second album.
“Tarte is the complete opposite of The Sicks,” the singer says of her sophomore recording. “It is the evolution from coming out of a bad situation and finding that, though very much scared, bruised and ice pack in hand, you’re only hungrier, louder and finally living it up, as you always should have.”
When most actor/singer crossovers flop, Majandra quickly gained a strong cult following in North America and one in Europe to match.
“The response was overwhelming and we had to reprint the album on three different occasions because we kept selling beyond our expectations,” Majandra smiles. “It’s been amazing and certainly quite reassuring.”
So you see, life after Roswell is good, just ask Katherine Heigl.
As for Majandra, while she charms audiences and relishes in her return to American television, she is wrapping up her third album (yet to be titled), expected to be released before year’s end.
“I definitely feel like I am living a fairytale, singing from my tower,” Majandra muses.
For old time’s sake, and for Roswell fans out there, Majandra entertains one last question: Do you believe in aliens?
“Absolutely!” she laughs. “Why? What do you know?”
