The Darcys’ playlist

After their debut in 2007, it didn’t take much time for Toronto based rock band The Darcys to graduate from campus sets to hot spots in festivals like NXNE and Canadian Music Week.

The Darcys were driving in the fast lane and loving the rush, until they hit a speed bump in the spring of ’10.

Lead vocalist Kirby Best suddenly wanted out. Non-negotiable, end of story.

To make the drawn out drama story (that involved lawyers) short, Kirby’s long gone and The Darcys kept trucking as a four-piece.

With help from hired producer and The Dears frontman, Murray Lightburn, the band released The Darcys last fall, mapped out a new itinerary and headed in a much more certain direction.

Now stronger than ever, the band is fresh off the release of their reimagining of Steely Dan’s 1977 album Aja, which you can pick up for free on their official site.

Steely Dan aside, the guys also credit Wilco, Broken Social Scene and the 70s as inspiration, but there’s no real need for them to tip their hats or make comparisons. The Darcys’ breed of innovative rock puts the four men in a league of their own as they rake in nationwide acclaim.

The Darcys loaded their tour van with gear and road tunes, and have set out on a tour of North America. Drummer Wes Marskell offers a taste of what’s spinning.
