My interview with Susanna Hoffs
I just got off the phone with Susanna Hoffs as in The Bangles, you know, “Walk Like an Egyptian,” “Eternal Flame” and “Manic Monday.”
This is another personal milestone for me. It’s right up there, ranking by my chats with Neil Young, Tori Amos and Lady Gaga.
I pretty much bumped around to The Bangles in diapers and still get pumped when I hear their hits.
“Manic Monday” will forever be my theme song to the most dreaded day of the week. The track usually pours right into my first caffeine fix.
I was half way through my second cup of coffee when Susanna’s publicist rang my iPhone to patch me through.
“Good morning, Marc, you’ve got 15 minutes with Susanna, and she’s ready. Here she is.”
What a rush. Those few minutes went out faster than the reign of Molly Ringwald (sorry Molly).
Earlier this a.m., I was struggling to shortlist my top 20 questions for the star. Well, I managed to pack our chat with some sweet small talk and 12 whole questions covering the past, present and future, and of course Susanna’s brand new solo album Someday. You can download a few tracks for FREE right here!
Susanna took the time to slide in feedback and compliments on my interview in between questions. I was flattered (so flattered that I have no words, can you imagine?), but I found myself biting my lip and thinking, “Tic, toc, lady, we’re not finished. I want to squeeze in one last question!”
Susanna was actually everything I expected, even more.
I try not to build celebrities up in my head, after all they’re no different than the rest of us, but this time, I couldn’t help it. Either way, Susanna didn’t let me down.
The woman is humble, charming and thankful for her lengthy career.
You’ll have the chance to get to know Susanna more through my full interview and her Celebrity Playlist feature coming soon.
