The 2016 Grammy Awards rundown
Taylor opened the show and sang “Out of the Woods,” my fave song from her album 1989 and she did it well. I’ll let that horrible “Can I speak to the manager?” haircut slide.
Sam Hunt is a handsome dude. Carrie Underwood’s see-through bathing-suit dress was an awful choice, but the performances of “Take Your Time” and “Heartbeat” were good.
The Weeknd did a great job with “I Can’t Feel My Face” and “In the Night,” but his vibrato was reaching billy goat levels.
That Abominable Snow-woman Andra Day blinged out like Cookie Lyon has a beautiful voice and sang well with pixie girl Ellie Goulding on “Love Me Like You Do.”
That Lionel Richie tribute was easy like Sunday morning.
I like how everything Demi performs at an award show. She’s out to prove she can actual belt a song like a true diva. She looked absolutely stunning, sang the roof off of “Hello,” and made me forget about Adele’s “Hello.”
And let’s all admit “All Night Long” is one of the greatest songs ever.
Little Big Town sounded great, but I swear I thought it was Anna Kendrick at the start of the performance.
Did Stevie Wonder pick out the outfits for Penatonix? I mean seriously.
Tori Kelly needs to be a bigger deal. She keeps flying under the radar. Every time I see her perform on an awards show, I’m impressed, but I never see her anywhere else.
Well, looks like I need a trip to NYC so I can see Hamilton on Broadway ’cuz that performance has me wholeheartedly intrigued.
Kendrick Lamar just out-Beyonced Black History Month with that performance. Powerful, incendiary and just plain cool.
I felt bad for Adele. I think she sang well enough, but between the sound drop and the piano sounding out of tune, she seemed like she had the stakes against her. Ummm until the end and then it all went to hell. Wow. She said goodbye (to her voice) from the other side.
The sound engineers need to be more on the ball but despite that, Justin Bieber proves he’s got talent. His singing was good but they kept dipping in and out so it messed up the quality. That was an interesting (albeit slightly sloppy) rendition of “Where Are U Now.”
Lady Gaga’s tribute to David Bowie was wild, weird and fun. She looks like she was having a blast and it was infectious.
Chris Stapleton makes me want a shot of whiskey and I don’t even like whiskey. That’s some seedy, smoky bar music right there and it’s impressive.
Bonnie Raitt is QUEEN.
That Alabama Shakes song has a groovy bass line. I’m digging it.
Hollywood vampires should go back to their crypt. Is it me or does Alice Cooper look like Steve Carrell gone goth?
How is Pitbull still going?
Until next year.
