Aaron Ashmore’s playlist

AaronAshmoreKilljoys, the sci-fi drama from the crew behind the hit series Lost Girl and Orphan Black is getting another go.

Canadian familiars Luke MacFarlane of Brothers & Sisters and Smallville’s Aaron Ashmore return for a second season of the saga that follows a trio of vigilante bounty hunters as they tail their dangerous marks through outer space.

Aaron, no alien to the sci-fi world, explains that it’s no a coincidence he gets recruited for gigs like this, and he has his fans to thank.

“Once you have a fan following in a certain genre, people start thinking of you as part of that world,” Aaron says. “It’s well known I’ve worked in sci-fi, and that is opening a lot of other doors within the genre.”

Playing Jimmy Olsen on Smallville for several seasons opened doors alright, and it sent a few hinges flying.

“I didn’t realize how big the show was and how much of an international following it had until I joined on the 6th season,” Aaron says. “Smallville definitely took things to another level and introduced me to a huge public.”

Aaron’s twin brother Shawn, who stars as Iceman in the X-Men franchise and opposite Kevin Bacon in The Following, can testify to that.

“My twin brother was on vacation in Fiji,” Aaron recounts. “And while he was there, one of the few TV channels available showed Smallville almost everyday. Shawn said he was a big celebrity on the island and couldnt get around without people following him and yelling, Jimmy! Jimmy!’ mistaking him for me.

Aaron is now known for more than his stint as the Daily Planet photographer. His involvement in Smallville has led to roles in many notable projects like Lost Girl, Warehouse 13, the upcoming 2016 thriller Regression, starring Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson, and now Killjoys.

On break from production, Aaron picked up his laptop, launched iTunes and made this playlist of his most played artists.

.

Tool

“I’m a huge Tool fan and constantly listening to them. Tool writes really interesting, introspective music. I’m crazy about them.”

.

Morrissey

“I’ve always got Morrissey in heavy rotation. I’m not sure what it is that I like about him. His lyrics, his sound and where he’s coming from is a mystery to me. I always hear something new, that’s what keeps me listening.”

.

Daniel Romano

“Daniel Romano was the lead singer and guitar player in the rock band Attack in Black. Now he’s solo and making country music. Not making new country, it’s got that old Johnny Cash feel to it and he has a really cool, deep voice. I listen to Daniel a lot.”

.

Jason Isbell

“This is sort of southern country/rock. Jason played in a band called Drive-By Truckers that I was a big fan of, but he left to start a solo career.  To hear him go and do his own thing is great. Jason’s got an amazing voice and he’s a great songwriter.”

.

Bad Religion

“I’ve always been a punk rock fan. I was in a punk rock band when I was in high school. Bad Religion is still putting out albums, and the more I hear them, the more I like them. I still get an adrenaline rush, a little kick, when I put on their music. I usually turn it up really loud.”

Killjoys season two is set to premiere in 2016 on Syfy and Space. Follow Aaron on twitter for updates.
