Duncan Sheik’s playlist
Duncan Sheik’s life hasn’t been the same since he wowed the world with his widely successful Broadway musical Spring Awakening in 2006.
“Because of the success of Spring Awakening, we’ve got all these great people who want to work with us. Whereas before,” Duncan laughs, “we were desperately trying to find a team to do the show.”
Now, Duncan’s projects are never ending. He recently produced Alice By Heart, based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland and an adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Nightingale. His take on Bret Easton Ellis’ cult classic, American Psycho is up next.
“We’re also working on another play about the Emperor Nero,” Duncan adds.
Before making a dent in the world of musical theatre, Duncan first made a name for himself in 1996 when his debut single, “Barely Breathing,” stood tall at the top of the charts for a solid 55 weeks.
Seven studio albums and greatest hits collection down the line, Duncan found success like never before with Spring Awakening. The production went on to sweep the 2007 Tony Awards with 8 wins and Duncan also claimed the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
On top of Spring Awakening’s success, a film adaptation of the Broadway hit will commence in 2013, and that’s not even the best part.
“The best is when I’d watch Spring Awakening and I’d hear a song sung by the cast, it doesn’t get any better than that.”
Now to better playlists everywhere, Duncan suggests the inclusion of at least one musical soundtrack. Here are his top five selections.
