Hanson’s playlist

Hanson made their major label debut in 1997 and the band of brothers took the world with just one song.

“MMMBop” reached the #1 chart position in over 25 countries and earned the siblings two Grammy nominations.

Fifteen years later, Hanson is still on the international radar and currently touring the world in support of their fifth studio album, Shout It Out.

“Having 5 albums under your belt is kind of a career landmark,” says lead vocalist Taylor Hanson.

Hanson released Shout It Out on their label, 3CG Records, in the US last year and Canada can officially get its mitts on the release this spring.

The brothers are beyond excited to finally share their latest offering on an international scale, a project they collectively feel is a special one.

Shout It Out captures our essence, songwriting and musicianship better than any album before,” Taylor explains. “This album celebrates our love of songwriting. A lot of it was recorded live off the floor, so it’s very organic and not too polished.”

Adding sparkle to Hanson’s gem, bassist Bob Babbit of Motown’s Funk Brothers and horn arranger Jerry Hey, celebrated for his work with Michael Jackson, lent their talents.

“I hope that Shout It Out is the kind of record that when put on, it reaches out, grabs you and pulls you in,” Taylor adds.

On that note, Taylor looks at 5 albums that have a tight grip on the Hanson brothers.

21 – Adele

“The whole world loves Adele and I’ve joined that group. It’s so refreshing to hear just a great voice and a great song. That’s what makes me happy about Adele’s success. I love her record.”

Feathers and Fishhooks – Rayland Baxter

“We came across this indie artist and this is such a cool record. It has a really organic, Delta-influenced, singer-songwriter sound. I think you can get it on his website.”

.

Sigh No More – Mumford & Sons

“I really, really like Sign No More.”

.

You & I – The Pierces

“We’re friends with this duo of two sisters. They’re fantastic and they’ve continued to stick it out and keep making records. Thankfully they’re experiencing success, particularly in the UK. We got to see them recently when we were there. I love them.”

.

Record Collection – Mark Ronson & The Business Intl.

“I love Mark Ronson’s project. They’re fantastic. He obviously comes from a DJ world, but you can hear great soulful and R&B influences in what he does, which I love.
