Kellylee Evans’ playlist

Junofest is taking over Ottawa this weekend. 100+ acts, including Juno Award winner Kellylee Evans, are taking part in this year’s celebration of Canadian music and performing at various venues across the capital.

“For me, it’s all about gigs, it’s all about performing,” Kellylee says.

But before the jazz starlet takes the stage, she hits the ice at the Juno Cup, the award show’s annual Canadian celebrity charity hockey match, going down on Friday, March 30.

“I’ll be the nervous looking one at centre ice,” Kellylee tells her facebook community.

The singer’s got the Juno Cup jitters, but this in no way compares to the nerves and thrills Kellylee felt this time last year, when Nina, her tribute album to the great Nina Simone, won the 2011 Juno Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year.

Here’s a look at a playlist Kellylee has going on as the 2012 Juno events unfold.

Amazing – Kanye West feat. Young Jeezy

“I look at this as my anthem when I am in need of a push. It’s like a before fight or before the game song for the team when you need a ridiculous amount of self-confidence. Who better than Kanye?”

.

Mamacita – Collie Buddz

“Sometimes I just want to dance. My music tastes lean towards anything that makes me feel good.”

.

It’s Pimpin’ Pimpin’ – Katt Williams

“Tied to feeling good is laughing. I love to laugh and so I listen to a lot of comedy. My all time favourite comedy DVD is Katt Williams’ It’s Pimpin’ Pimpin.’ I was stoked to find the audio for the performance. So, I can listen and visualize the incredible physical comedy of Katt Williams, even when I am not near a screen. Priceless.”

.

Seven Nation Army – Ben l’Oncle Soul

“Awesome, awesome, awesome album by a French soul singer! I’ve been learning French for the last year and I stumbled over this artist while listening to a podcast. He is scary talented. I got a chance to catch his live show in France and he was spectacular. His cover of the White Stripes’ tune is killer.”

.

Cangote – Céu

“I have an addiction to this song. The artist is from Brazil and it is this wonderful mix of soul, world and hip hop. I can’t understand a word she’s saying, but I love it.”

You can catch Kellylee when she hits the ice at Juno Cup in Ottawa on Friday, March 30. The singer plays Junofest at the Velvet Room with the Nylons, Fern Lindzon and Sonia Johnson. For Kellylee’s tour dates click here.
