Marilou’s playlist

Quebecoise sweetheart Marilou is a big girl now and she’s marked this transition with her third album 60 Thoughts a Minute.

This coming of age record is Marilou’s most ambitious to date.

It sees the 21 year old snip some puppeteer strings as she seizes creative control and takes on the role of hands-on singer-songwriter for the very first time.

Even more daring, the francophone made the bold move of recording the album in English.

“I wanted to test myself,” Marilou tells me after her album launch event at Montreal’s l’Astral.

“I just really love the language. I fell in love with it at a young age and all my idols sing in English. I just wanted to try it and I love it,” she smiles.

Now Marilou hopes that her core fans and newfound public feels the same the way.

60 Thoughts a Minute is so honest, it’s a reflection of who I am now and I want people to know that I didn’t make it to sell records, I did it to touch people.”

Marilou made a short playlist of albums that have had a big impact on her.

.

Battle Studies – John Mayer

“I love John Mayer. He’s a great musician. I asked that his album be played before my album launch.”

.

I-Empire Angles and Airwaves

“Their sound is awesome, huge and tasty. They’re so inventive. I love this band and this album is great.”

.

Dizzy Up the Girl Goo Goo Dolls

“I love this album and I just love ‘Iris.’”

.

Jagged Little Pill – Alanis Morissette

“It’s Jagged Little Pill!”

.

Blink-182 – Blink-182

“I love ‘I Miss You.’ ‘Where are you and I’m so sorry I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight. I need somebody and always.’ What a hit!”
