MC Mario’s playlist

MC Mario had one wild summer, jam packed with fun, sun and success.

The star DJ’s latest compilation Summer Anthems 2012 spawned a tour and climbed to the No.3 position on the Canadian Charts and the No.2 hot spot on iTunes.

“I’m really happy and proud of this collection,” says the renowned DJ and radio host.

The hit compilation features 16 summer anthems including remixes of Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been” and Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know.”

With the amount of hot summer tracks out there, Mario didn’t have the easiest time selecting just 16 seasonal songs.

“I had a wish list of about 40 tracks. Summer Anthems was like building a hockey team,” says the French Canadian. “You’ve got to make choices. Sometimes it breaks my heart to get rid of a track or replace it, but I have to have the best team possible and package it in a way that people will appreciate.”

One tune that nearly didn’t make the cut is Remolino’s Latin scorcher “Moritos.”

“I licensed this song literally two hours before cut off,” Mario remembers. “I’m so happy it worked. I love the track and two months later, I turned around to see it go to the Top 10 in the UK.”

Put in the hot seat, Mario makes a playlist of his top 5 current favorite artists.

.

Green Day

“I love putting their music on and blasting a few tracks.

.

Oasis

“Oasis is probably the band I’m missing the most right now.”

.

Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso

“They’ve got this song called ‘Calling (Lose My Mind) featuring Ryan Tedder.’ That’s playing in my car. Loud.”

.

Skrillex

“Skrillex’s ‘Breakn a Sweat’ featuring The Doors is crazy. It’s insane. He killed the track.”

.

Loleatta Holloway

“To me, this is the voice. I would love to find someone who sings like this today.”
