Natalia Kills’ playlist

NataliaKillsNatalia Kills is dead.

The controversial Brit bad girl has offed her former self and has absolutely no interest in further releasing music as Natalia Kills.

“Call me Teddy,” the “Problem” singer voiced on Instagram.

Natalia used social media to announce that she is now going by the name Teddy Sinclair.

According to her post, Teddy has been her long time pet name and Sinclair is legally hers since she wed singer Willy Moon last year and took his last name.

So that’s Mrs Teddy Natalia Noemi Cappuccini Sinclair.

We’ll see how long that sticks. This isn’t the first time Natalia, sorry, Teddy, has changed her name.

In 2005 Teddy released her very first single “Don’t Play Nice” using the moniker Verbalicious before taking on the stage name Natalia Kills and delivering her 2008 debut album Perfectionist.

Whether or not Natalia’s, I mean Teddy’s latest name change is an attempt to remove herself from the global backlash she received after tearing into a contestant during her stint on X Factor is definitely up for debate, but she hasn’t opened up about that.

What Teddy has revealed about the reinvention is that it will make way for a darker, more edgier version of herself, and she plans to deliver something that is often lacking in the mainstream.

“Pop music needs much more opinion,” Teddy tells me over the phone. “It’s great to sing about being happy, but I don’t just want to dance and pump the night away anymore. I want to confront the bad and face the dark.”

Allow Teddy to elaborate.

“Dark as in depth, obscurity and surrealism. Not as in death, punishment, pain or anything cold. I get misconstrued. People assume that I have a fascination with the macabre, the creepy, the morbid, but I don’t,” she clarifies.

Basically, Teddy plans to return to the scene and push the envelope the way these artists dominating her playlist have.

.

Sweet Dreams – Eurythmics

“It’s such a driving, pumping clubish pop song, but when you listen to the lyrics it’s definitely dark. I’m certainly inspired by Eurythmics.”

.

Hounds of Love – Kate Bush

“I love how Kate is very autobiographical in her music. It’s raw.”

.

Love Kills – Freddie Mercury

“Love Kills’ is a song that you want to dance to. It’s euphoric, it’s electronic, but with the lyrics Love kills, drills you through your heart. Love kills, scars you from the start.’ You feel like you’re celebrating the pains we go through naturally as humans in love by singing along, you don’t feel saddened or like you’re complaining about it. It’s a song of joy, not misery, even though it’s talking about misery. It’s brilliant.”

.

Kanye West

“There are so many songs by Kanye that I love. I think he is brilliant in every way and I get inspired listening to his music. I was really lucky to work on my album Perfectionist with the amazing Jeff Bhasker who produced three of Kanye’s albums. That was a chief privilege for me.”

.

Hand in my Pocket – Alanis Morissette

“It’s one of my favorites. Alanis talks about her insecurities and celebrates them. It’s so hopeful, so honest and I love honest music.”
