Phoenix Lord’s playlist

DJ Phoenix Lord is set to perform at Montreal’s Carnaval des Couleurs on Sunday, October 7.

Summer is over, but the vibrant city of Montreal isnt letting go of festival season just yet.

The arts and music fest Carnaval des Couleurs is set to launch its first edition on Thanksgiving weekend.

Highlighting Montreals colorful diversity and in the spirit of togetherness, this free family-friendly event will take over Sainte Catherine Street in the heart of the Gay Village.

There festival-goers will find four outdoor stages showcasing artists including DJs, singers, musicians, dance troupes and drag queens from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Three thematic zones will also be set up: a visual arts and fine crafts area, a family area and a foodie area.

Among the acts performing during the long weekend is local rising DJ/producer Phoenix Lord, whose debut album, The Mass of Phoenix, peaked at No.6 on the iTunes Dance Chart earlier this year.

“I’m honored to be part of this first edition,” the DJ says about joining the lineup. “Being able to share my music is such a privilege, and this event shares the same thoughts and message that I want to convey through my music. To encourage people to be a better version of themselves and to live in a better world.

Carnaval des Couleurs will no doubt be a block party blowout, and so on that note, I asked Phoenix Lord to curate a little playlist of his favorite party anthems.

Level – Avicii
This song is one of the best of the decade. Avicii was such a talented artist that I respect a lot. Unfortunately he died too young, but he left this chef-doeuvre as a legacy.

Toca – Carnage Feat. Timmy Trumpet & KSHRM
Timmy always includes the trumpet in his songs and I like that. As soon as you hear one note of this song it has an impact. It’s unifying.

Sweet Dreams – Eurythmics
“‘Sweet Dreams’ is a song that marked my youth and everybody sings it still today.

Mandala – KSHRM & Marnik
I like the vibe and intensity of this song and I find it very theatrical and inspiring. I play a lot of KSHMR songs in my sets.

Show Me Love – Robin S
“‘Show Me Love’ has a life of its own. It was avant-garde, it traveled the world and became a timeless classic. Everybody recognizes that Robin S sound.’

Montreal’s Carnaval des Couleurs runs Friday, October 5 through Monday, October 8. Phoenix Lord plays Sunday at 3 p.m. at Parc de l’Espoir corner Ste.Catherine and Panet. Click here for event info.

Phoenix Lord’s debut album The Mass of Phoenix is available on iTunes. Keep an eye out for his upcoming single I Believe Featuring Robin S. slated for release this fall.
