Scarlett Jane’s playlist

There is something familiar about Scarlett Jane’s debut album Stranger.

Andrea Ramolo and Cindy Doire, the two belles who make up the duo, handpicked the finest elements of roots, blues, country, pop and rock ’n’ roll, and stirred it into their brand of folk-noir.

“Our sound is definitely a mélange of genres that people are familiar with,” Andrea says.

“We write what we love and we write what we know. As human beings and as artists especially, we’re like sponges. We take things in quickly and they come out of us through our music.”

The track selection that makes up Stranger is a tight fit. While each tune compliments the next, “Burning Up” stands taller than the rest.

Dim, smoky and haunting, the song has a cinematic quality that will surely land it a soundtrack spot. It’s also a personal favorite of manager Jake Gold, known for taking Canadian talent like the Tragically Hip and Adam Cohen under his wing.

That said, you can bet “Burning Up” will have its time in the spotlight.

Break Your Body – LeE HARVey OsMOND featuring Hawksley Workman

“We had the luxury of opening for LeE HARVeY OsMOND who is Tom Wilson from Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. For the live performance, we sang Hawksley Workman’s part. Such rich and simplistic lyrics. Tom kills this song with his vocals.”

The Law and the Lonesome – Jonathan Byrd

“When we’re in our car we listen to friends, our contemporaries. Jonathan co-wrote this song with one of our dear friends Corin Raymond. The songwriting is exceptional and this song’s been on repeat. One of the lines is ‘The snow’s like a ghost of cocaine on the highway.’ That actually paints a picture of what we’re driving through on the road right now.”
