Sean Ashby’s playlist
If you haven’t heard of Sean Ashby, you’ve heard his guitar. Even if you’ve been under a rock, because like a guitar god would be, Sean is everywhere.
Sean’s lent his talents to some of Canada’s elite, including Delerium and Sarah McLachlan, and has played supporting roles in their international success.
“I played with Sarah McLachlan for 12 years at the peak of her career,” Sean recalls. “It was cool playing on a records and then having it sell 4 million copies in the US alone, a few times.”
Sean also accompanied Sarah live from North American tours to performances at the Grammy Awards and many places in between. Remember Mirror Ball, Sarah’s widely acclaimed and Grammy nominated live album? That’s Sean handy guitar work.
“I brought a rock edge to her live sound and performance, as much as I could get away with,” Sean comments.
For those unfamiliar with Sean’s solo albums Brass and Gold and 24 Hours of Daylight, this ain’t no Lilith Fair.
Sean’s latest solo album, 24 Hours of Daylight, is a rich blend of Americana, roots and folk rock.
Fans of Iron and Wine, Damien Rice and Cary Brothers, I’m talking to you. Fans of Colin James and David Lindley and Ry Cooder will also warm up to Sean’s solo material. There’s even a little something for the John Mayer lover, minus the unnecessary arrogance and mainstream intoxication.
Bottom line, Sean crosses over the genres and has a tune to offer any guitar lover, acoustic or electric.
“I play guitar the way I do because I do, not because of something someone else played,” Sean says. “Not to say I’m not influenced, I am. But for me, guitar is like singing. These are not all killer guitar songs, just great tunes.”

Get Rhythm – Ry Cooder
“I don’t have this one in MP3, I’ve actually been playing the CD! I love Ry’s playing. This has the best slide guitar tone and playing.”
.
These Arms Of Mine – Ottis Redding
“Great singer.”
.
Go With The Flow – Queens Of The Stone Age
“Rocks!”
.
Between The Bars – Elliott Smith
“Great acoustic guitar player. I still love this tune. What a mood it sets!”
