The Low Anthem’s playlist

The Low Anthem has got to be the busiest band to ever come out of Providence, maybe even New England.

The indie folk band managed to deliver four albums in five years while relentlessly touring the globe.

“We have been working really hard,” multi-instrumentalist Ben Knox Miller admits.

In the fall of last year, The Low Anthem announced that a November show date in Belgium would mark a much needed hiatus. And by hiatus, the band meant another cross-country tour and studio time.

The Low Anthem joined City and Colour on tour and recorded a new song for The Hunger Games soundtrack featuring Arcade Fire, Maroon 5, Neko Case, Kid Cudi and Taylor Swift.

Speaking of recording, the band has plans to spend the most of spring and summer in the studio, but just has to throw a few show dates in to mix things up.

“Keeping it fresh and interesting, that’s important to us,” Ben says.

So no hiatus for The Low Anthem. They don’t seem to know the meaning.

Here’s a look at five songs Ben had playing on the road this year.

.

Owed t’Alex – Captain Beefheart

“This is off his album Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller). This is an insane song that I’ve probably listened to this song 40 times in one week.”

.

Went to See the Gypsy – Bob Dylan

“So beautiful.”

.

Cus’s Catskill Gym – The Felice Brothers

“Oh man, The Felice Brothers are a great rock band. I really like them. This is a great depraved rock song about Mike Tyson.”

.

Sewee Sewee – Mountain Man

“I love this song of theirs. They’re a female trio singing in vocal harmony of a fairly traditional style.”

.

Weighted Down (The Prison Song) – Skip Spence

“Skip Spence, one of the original members of Jefferson Airplane, did a sideproject record called Oar when he got out of a mental institution. It’s said that the day he got out he drove a motorcycle for 17 hours to Nashville to make the album. The record is so beautiful and ‘Weighted Down’ is my favorite on there.”

The Hunger Games soundtrack is available March 20, pre-order here. For The Low Anthem’s tour dates, click here. Keep up with the band on facebook and twitter.
