The Virgins’ playlist
New York indie rockers The Virgins have the CW’s Gossip Girl to thank for accelerating their ride to fame.
The teen drama featured not one, but five of the band’s tunes, including the hit “Rich Girls,” in a single episode.
“I love watching how our music is used in a completely different context than we wrote it in. It’s interesting, fun and of course the exposure is very nice too,” says frontman Donald Cumming.
The Virgins have had plenty of exposure since, from the sets of the Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to the stages of festivals like SXSW.
Fresh off an opening gig for The Killers, the band has kicked off their own international headlining tour in support of their latest album, Strike Gently.
As absorbed as they may be, The Virgins still find the time to immerse themselves in other people’s music.
“We go through these phases where we get completely obsessed with a particular artist and a stage in their career,” Donald says. “And then we listen to those songs nonstop, over and over again.”
