Yoav’s playlist

To quote his hit debut album, Yoav is charmed and strange. This one-man show is also one of a kind. Yoav creates his own spin on the electronic genre with his bare hands, vocals, acoustic guitar and the minimal help of loops and samples.

“Me? Charmed and strange?” Yoav blushes. “No, not me. People have said that is what my music sounds like. I say that’s what my life has been like.”

The Israeli-born artist has become well acquianted with success since his debut and delivered a positively received sophomore album, A Foolproof Escape, Plan in 2010.

Since then, Yoav has performed in sold-out venues around the world and has toured with an array of charttopping artists including Imogen Heap and Tori Amos. A fan of these women, he also credits musicians from Timbaland to Jeff Buckley and Radiohead to Bjork as inspiration.

“I’m on a mission,” Yoav adds. “I want to discover as much music as I possibly can.”

Here are five influential songs Yoav feels are worth mentioning.

Time to Pretend – MGMT

My Body Is a Cage – Arcade Fire

Bird Flu – M.I.A.

Analyse – Thom Yorke

Apres Moi – Regina Spektor

Yoav plays Osheaga on Saturday, July 30. The art & music festival runs from July 29 to July 31. Click here for the complete lineup and schedule.
