Sean Astin returns to Ottawa Comiccon

Ottawa, prepare to be starstruck. The celebrity lineup for Comiccon in the capital is dazzling.

The latest guest reveal is Sean Astin, famous for many standout roles including Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and of course his childhood breakthrough roles as Mikey Walsh in The Goonies and Daniel E. ‘Rudy’ Ruettiger in Rudy.

Sean joins a gang of celebs previously announced including icons John Barrowman and Ron Perlman, Smallville’s Tom Welling, Harry Potter alum Tom Felton, Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers star Pom Klementieff, Anson Mount, Ethan Peck and Anthony Rapp of Star Trek: Discovery, Tom Cavanagh of Ed, Arrow and the Flash, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ Amy Jo Johnson (also of Felicity and Flashpoint) and Mark Sheppard of Supernatural.

Sean is no stranger to fan conventions. The actor has taken part in countless cons around the world. What has him hooked is you, the fans. Your admiration and devotion keeps him coming back.

“Conventioneers and science fiction fans at conventions have so much heart, so much love and so much creativity,” Sean says. “They’re so happy to be there even though they’re spending beyond more money than they can heat their homes with in the winter. They just appreciate it.”

Sean feels more than appreciated when he comes to the conventions in Canada and says there is something special about the way he is greeted by his Canadian fans.

“One thing that’s unique is one word that everybody uses: honor. ‘It’s such an honor to meet you.’ If you go to Comic-Con in San Diego, it’s: ‘Man, I’m so excited to meet you. Man, this is great!’ But [in Canada], it’s ‘an honor to meet you.’ Oh wow, thank you.”

Ottawa Comiccon runs Friday, May 10 through Sunday, May 12. Sean is set to appear Saturday and Sunday.
