William Shatner talks new Star Trek
The 13th installment in the epic sci-fi franchise and the third in J.J. Abram’s reboot series is now available in various media formats including the Star Trek Trilogy Blu-ray Collection.
I don’t know about you, but former Star Trek actor William Shatner already got his hands on a copy of the blockbuster.
“I am a fan of the new films,” he admits. “And I’d be delighted to be in one, but I don’t think it’s possible to bring me back.”
William, as you likely know, rose to fame and became a cultural icon after playing the role of James T. Kirk, Captain of the USS Enterprise.
The Montreal-born actor first appeared as Kirk in the Star Trek pilot “The Man Trap,” which originally aired in September of ’66. He headlined the show’s three seasons, and then lent his voice to Star Trek: The Animated Series in 1973.
William resumed his role in 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture and in 6 subsequent films including 1994’s Star Trek Generations before passing the torch to Chris Pine who plays a younger version of Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ re-imaginings.
“Chris is talented. He is a terrific, wonderful actor,” William says of his successor.
William also applauds the whole team for doing a bang up job of reviving the franchise and bringing something new to the series.
“J.J. Abrams and his crew are great. His Star Treks might have less stories to them than the originals do, but they’re a ride now. With all the technology and graphics, you’re taken on this incredible ride.”
Star Trek Beyond is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D and DVD now. An untitled sequel is currently in the works.
