Carly Rae Jepsen can drop all the maybes

CarlyRaeJepsen“Call Me Maybe” singer Carly Rae Jepsen is not a one hit wonder, but she sure had everyone thinking it.

After that infectious tune caught on like a global epidemic, made no.1 in 19 countries and sold over 12 million copies, the bar was set sky high.

“It’s a gift to have a song like that, but also an enormous challenge to prove that you’ve got more in you than one song,” Carly says. “I think I do, so I’m going to do what I can to prove that.”

Carly can drop all the maybes. Two years and a lot of hard work later the girl is back and singing a catchy new tune. Her fresh single “I Really Like You” has the world hooked. While it is certified gold in Canada, it is climbing the top 10 charts in over 10 countries.

The music video is also doing a bang-up job at proving she has what it takes. The production starring Hollywood legend Tom Hanks has gone viral on YouTube with over 58 million views and counting.

It also doesn’t hurt to have Justin Bieber in her corner. He too appears in the video and the superstar showed some love by uploading a parody montage featuring Ariana Grande, Kendall Jenner, Lance Bass and himself mouthing the words to the song.

“He has really been my main supporter,” Carly says of the Biebs. “He’s been rooting for me. He signed me with Scooter Braun to School Boy Records. Because of that I was able to be exposed to the world beyond Canada.”

Carly isn’t short on exposure these days. Her return to the US was met with a warm and fuzzy reception and invites to high profile sets including Good Morning America, Saturday Night Live, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Dancing with the Stars.

Here at home, Canada’s sweetheart has been welcomed back with a Fan Fave Artist nomination at the 2015 MuchMusic Video Awards and the honor of sharing the stage with some of this year’s top performing acts including Ed Sheeran, Nick Jonas and Jason Derulo.

“It’s an incredible feeling. Being recognized in the country that made me is the greatest feeling ever,” she says. “I’m moved beyond words. I’m unable to say anything other than thank you.”

Carly is set to perform at the 2015 MMVAs on Sunday, June 21 and is in the race for the Fan Fave Artist award. See all the nominees and vote for your favorites here.
