Dev pulls fans out of the dark with personal MTV special

Dev, the rising pop star responsible for the hit singles “Like a G6,” “In the Dark” and “Naked,” featuring Enrique Iglesias, has teamed up with MTV to bring you Dev, a documentary that intimately chronicles the singer’s road to stardom.

“It’s been a great experience,” Dev says. But there have been a few set backs and bumps along the way.

The documentary zeros in on an especially trying period in Dev’s career when her new-found fame and the release of her debut album, The Night the Sun Came Up, collided with her high-risk pregnancy.

The “G6” star went on to delay her debut three times since the fall of 2011, until it was finally released last month.

In an industry where pop fizzles fast, that’s professional suicide, but Dev isn’t shaken, and the documentary will show you just how driven she is.

The MTV production also shines a light on Dev’s childhood and visits Manteca, California where Dev lived before chasing down her dreams in LA. at age 19.

“It’s funny,” says the 22-year-old. “When I lived there, I wanted to get out and go anywhere but be home, and now it’s my favorite place.”

Now juggling family life and international stardom, Dev hopes to accomplish one thing with the release of her MTV special: join influential, headstrong female pop stars like Pink in the position to inspire a generation.

“Growing up wasn’t always easy,” Dev says. “Girls need girls like us to inspire them to be who they want. Now I get to be a part of it. I’m glad I get to do that.”

Dev premieres Wednesday, May 23 at 11 p.m on MTV, see the trailer below.

Dev’s debut album, The Night the Sun Came Up, is available now. Reach out to Dev on facebook and twitter.
