The Black Eyed Peas for the Philippines

AplDeApLike millions, the Black Eyed Peas’ hearts broke for the Philippines and all affected by typhoon Haiyan, but the devastation hit closer to home for BEP member apl.de.ap.

“I was adopted from the Philippines,” says the L.A.-relocated superstar.

Though apl.’s native region wasn’t leveled by the disastrous storm, he didn’t waste a second before rushing to aid of the annihilated areas.

In full outreach mode, apl.de.ap, born Allan Pineda Lindo, has been doing everything he can think of to help, from donating cash and canned goods to raising additional funds through benefit concerts.

He also joins the biggest names in the biz like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and U2 on the Universal and Sony Music compilation, Song for the Philippines.

All proceeds from the sale of the 39-track album will be donated to the relief efforts of the Philippines Red Cross.

If you haven’t jumped on the opportunity, this your chance start the New Year off by refreshing your music repertoire while, more importantly, giving to those in need.

Apl.’s good will is nothing new. The Black Eyed Peas founding member was assisting his homeland long before the storm hit. In 2008, he launched the apl.de.ap Foundation to aid children in communities in the Philippines by bettering the state of education and technology.

For those unfamiliar with apl.’s bio, he grew up in poverty with little chance at a future until he was sponsored and later adopted by an American family who could provide for him.

“I have to do the same thing, give the same opportunities that were given me,” he says.

Apl. also launched his own record label, Jeepney Music, with the promise to provide a platform for emerging talent in the Philippines and beyond.

Humble and modest, apl. says his charity is like second nature.

“When you have success, it’s a way of giving back.”
